Life Lessons from My DAD

Hey There

It has been a long time since I wrote a post here, and that is not because I've been busy, it's because I have been procrastinating since the time I got done with my MBA! :P

Today is Father's Day and I wanted to write this post, not to celebrate this day in particular, but to Thank my Dad for teaching me the most important lessons in life.
Amidst all the agreeing, disagreeing, arguing, debating what I did not realize was that I was learning some of the most important things about life situations and only now I realize that all those discussions have played a major role in shaping me into the person I am today.

Life Lessons from My DAD

1. Spend Money on learning new skills rather than on buying material things

I have been playing tennis since the age of 10, learning Odissi- An Indian Classical Dance Form since the age of 6. While I was in school, I learned music, dance, I was always into sports. Growing up, I tried everything from Crossfit to Zumba to learning a language. There has never been a dull moment and I believe my sister and I have lived a fuller life because my parents gave us the opportunity to try and learn everything possible under the Sun. My dad never said a No.

2. Being humble is the best gift you can give to people around you

I have never, NEVER seen my dad boast about anything that he has achieved in his Life. And he indeed has achieved a lot. He is the most humble person I have come across and this is one thing i definitely wish to learn from him.

3. Work Hard and rest will fall in place

Dad always tell us that there is no substitute to Hard Work. Waking us up at 6 am in the mornings for tennis training or motivating us to push a little harder, this is how he has brought us up. And I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I can today proudly say that Hard Work doesn't scare me, it is what I look forward to, every time I dream a new dream.

4. Giving back to the society is as important as earning for your self

Dad has been a part of a social organization since 15 years now. Most of the times even my Mom does not know how much money my dad has contributed for community work and to how many organizations. To him, it is a very important part of his life.

5. Marks as not as important as enjoying school or college life is

The one reason why my sister and I could do well in extra curricular activities, and by well I mean playing sports at the State and National Level, was that my dad never pushed us to score amazing marks. He did want us to do well, but that was more about learning the concepts well and not about scoring the most amazing marks.

6. Dream. But also align your dreams with time and specific goals

Dad never stops us from dreaming but he also wants us to be very practical about our dreams. If we want to achieve something in life, we should have a proper time oriented plan and a particular direction is what he always says.

Dad you did not treat me like a princess, because you wanted me to take on the world like a queen. And I am so glad for that!

Thank you. I love you Dad!

Endings

Hey people! How is it going? I have just got done with my MBA, and the feeling of the end is just sinking in!

Have you ever had experiences of endings? Times when you just want to rewind the moments and memories that have gone by and relieve them again? Well I am experiencing some of that now and hence this post!

I look forward to beginnings, each day, every time. It is the endings I fear. Because some moments become so special that it is difficult to let them go. And when you finally make peace with an ending, it is time for a new beginning; and the cycle continues, becoming an integral part of your life!

This poem I had written a while back. Holds very true for me today! Hope you like it.

An end is only a new beginning they say,

I wonder if life could work that way

How does one prepare the heart,

For the new situations that are so different from the past

How does one leave all behind,

When the mind knows that time won't rewind

Why is it so difficult to accept the new,

Maybe because about the new, one has no clue

But, life is all about unpredictibility, the unknown,

And to confront this is the only way to grow!

P.S. Would love a feedback, comments and opinions. Thank You! :)

I Don't Wish To

Hey People! How's it going? I've been busy. Procrastinating! :P

The Mumbai weather is just going from bad to worse, though I don't like complaining; this my favourite city after all! I personally believe that, its because I've been in Mumbai for so many years, life has been full of opportunities, new ideas, the freedom to be yourself; stuff like that!

Like I have been mentioning before, the end of MBA life is nearing and I keep feeling overwhelmed because each memory that I have built in the past two years is special and close to my heart! When I see my friends gearing up to face the corporate challenges, I realize that this definitely is something I don't wish to take up, and I have my reasons for that!

I Don't Wish To..

I don't wish to work in a world where your day starts at 10 in the office and ends at 7 in that very office, at the same desk. I don't wish to work in a world where fun and joy equals to weekends. I don't wish to work in a world where you need to put in applications for vacations, months in advance and sudden surprise holidays are not possible. I don't wish to work in a world where egos are stronger than knowledge. I don't wish to work in a world where following orders matters more than giving creative opinions. I don't wish to work in a world where you have to live others' dreams. I don't wish to work in a world where mundane, stagnant is considered normal.
I wish to make my own work world where work is passion for me and each day brings new opportunities and new challenges, I wish this to be my work, the work that gives me not only happiness, but a whole lot of satisfaction as well!

The Free Bird

Hey people! Wassuppp ;)
I just got done with my last lecture of MBA. I am definitely going to cherish the memories of these two beautiful years for a lifetime! Life has its ways. Some awesome, some not so awesome days. But as they say, life moves on and sometimes you are more than happy to cling to the memories that you have built in the past.

Like I mentioned in my previous post too, I have chosen not to take the corporate ladder but instead have chosen an offbeat career, something that will require me to move to the US for a year. More on that soon! :P

This post today relates to the feeling I have today, when  MBA, something my parents wanted me to do, has almost ended and now am on my way to living the life of my dreams.
This post is for all those who, after a long phase of working or doing things that they really did not wish to,are finally free birds. I share that feeling! :D

Now they shout, you are a free bird. Be what you always wanted to be and do what you always wanted to. A smile on my face, hope in my stride, armed with dreams, I set off to conquer the world. Before I can take the next step, I realize that I no longer have a force pushing me in a particular direction, no one who I need to answer, no one I can blame! Which is the right way? Does this path lead to my desired goal? Does this path even lead somewhere or I am too blinded by my dream to not even be able to figure out the practicality of the situation? All I am going to do is close my eyes and go for the big leap!

If you can dream it, you can achieve it

Hello lovely people!
I am towards the end of my MBA and while everyone is gearing up for the corporate life, I have other plans. Finally, I am going to do what I always wanted to. I will be finally living my dream! More on that soon! :)

Are you someone who dares to dream? Are you someone who thinks beyond the normal? Are you someone who could give up a very lucrative job to follow your passion? You there, this post is for you!

If you can dream it, you can achieve it.

A lot of people depend on others' opinions for taking most of their decisions. And these others love to pull you down.Try asking others about what they think of your dreams and goals. It is too late, it is too soon, it is not achievable, it is not the right time, are you serious?, these are some of the replies you will get. These others are the very people who have either given up to monotony or have lived a life they never wanted to live and hence can't see you walking on the path of your dream. These people are the ones who crib about everything in life and blame it on circumstances. Your dreams scare them more than they scare you because they remind them of their long lost dreams. But You remember, if you can dream it, you can achieve it!-Shweta

That Place

Hey People

Its February and raining in Mumbai!! Sucha pretty day!

A hot cup of coffee makes it prettier! :D

Today, am writing something I have felt strongly, and am sure you all must have felt the same at at least some part of your life!

Even though I have spent all my life yet in Mumbai, I am a big travel buff and don't leave any opportunity of travelling and exploring new places. All of my travel has been within India and most of it has been for sports events and tournaments. Sometimes, I feel so connected to a place that it gets very difficult to disconnect and I believe there must have been times in your lives too, when even though you know you don't belong to a certain place, but there is a very strong connect that binds you to it.

THAT PLACE

They say it is always good to be back home. But sometimes you fall in love with a place so much that you wish that that very place was your home. If not forever, then at least for time enough to be able to enjoy the essence of that place. And sometimes you wish to be a part of someplace for some more time just because you want to prove to yourself that though the place is very different from what you are and how you have lived, you still have it in you to make that place home. At times like these, even though you are back home, you have left a small part of you back at that place in the hope of staying connected to that place even though you may never be able to go back there!

MBA-The last lap

I haven't written in a long time but this time I plan to get regular with my posts(this is what I tell myself every time I write :/). But yes this time the resolve is stronger. :D O Yes also planning to move beyond poetry!!

So I am jus a few weeks away from completing the most beautiful chapter in my life; the chapter called MBA. This post kind of sums up how I feel right now.

This post is dedicated to all those ending their time as MBA students.

MBA-The Last Lap

It is almost the end, a few more weeks to go. The last one and a half years have been the most beautiful ones and I will cherish each moment spend in this journey. The last 20 days have been even more eventful and amazing.(This includes a dog bite, trips to Pune and Ahmedabad to represent my college in sports fests and the most awaited trip to Goa! ;))

As this journey draws to a close,I look back on the memories I have build, the beautiful people I have met, the friendships that will be cherished for a lifetime. Sometimes I wonder that the ones with masks on, will they realise what they lost while trying to be someone they are not. I wonder whether the ones I admired will remain the way they are. I wonder whether we will cross paths again. I wonder whether life will be as amazing in the new beginnings. I wonder whether we will stay in touch. One thing I can say for sure, I am going to leave a small part of me, back here, because that part will never be able to move on.

As we near the end, I remember something one of my seniors mentioned last year," Some people in my class studied, Some played; the rest wasted two more years of their life!"
